Art Peep Show

In January of 2018, Modern Art put out a call for artists interested in partaking in an experiment called the Art Peep Show. The project began by creating a small gallery space within the studio to be taken over by a new artist each day. Thirty artists were assigned a day to contribute to the 6' x 8' life-size diorama, using the theme 'THE EXPERIMENT' to guide their contribution. Artists were given the freedom to use the space in whatever way they liked: some displayed artwork, some performed, some projected, some spent the day writing, some spent the day painting, some filled the space with penguins, some with robots, some with mushrooms.

The only way to view the work was through two small peep holes in a covered window. The nature of this unusual set-up invites curiosity and creates an interactive dynamic between the art and the "peeper". It allows passers-by to engage in a new piece of art everyday, delighting in the surprise of an art intervention.

Return of the PeeP Show: March 2020
Many thanks to the PA Council on the Arts for funding a second go at the Modern Art Peep Show slated for the month of March, 2020. Interested in participating? It’s easy: just send an email to weirdo@itsmodernart.com with your name, an initial concept of what you’d like to do in/with the diorama (3-5 sentences or photos) by February 3, 2020. First come, first served! Once artists are finalized, we’ll send out a calendar to sign up for your day. All are welcome.

Not sure you want to display anything but still want to be involved? GREAT. Just come on by as much as you can in March to support the peep-showees. Or give us a call or email— we always need help.
