CITY of Lancaster, PA

Modern Art is so lucky to have landed smack dab in the middle of the best little city a creative could imagine. So it’s more than a pleasure to be able to work for the great folks (who are busting their you know whats) to make this city what it is. For the past 10 years, we’ve had the honor of designing and strategizing with a multitude of municipal departments: Stormwater, Trash and Recycling, Public Art, and Neighborhood Engagement.

Department of Neighborhood Engagement

The design and communication projects Modern Art has done in collaboration with Mayor’s Department of Neighborhood Engagement (DoNE) have been some of the most rewarding and exciting work. The DoNE was established to invest and actively work with residents in providing and connecting to City and partner resources to realize solutions and improve the quality of life for all City of Lancaster residents. The DoNE office creates opportunities for dialogue, information sharing, partnership, civic leadership building, and action between the City government and neighborhood residents.

Modern Art has strategized closely with the department on a Neighborhood Engagement model- a way to visually explain how the complex work of DoNE can create real change in our community. We’ve designed an approachable, friendly look and feel (NeighborGOOD) for materials and programs that allows the department’s fearless leader and interns to distribute and communicate easily. Modern Art also created logos for the groundbreaking “Neighborhood Leadership Academy” program, the “Lunch/Dinner with the Mayor” and the “Love Your Block” program (even adaptable to the times of social distancing.)

Lancaster Office of Public Art

Libby Modern served on the Lancaster Public Arts Advisory Board from its inception in 2010 to 2015, so the department holds a big place in our hearts. Knowing how important it is for a city to use art “as a pathway for meaningful conversation, to evoke emotions, tell the story of our culture and our identities, to create a sense of belonging, and attract interest and to enhance pride in the City of Lancaster” has been the driving force of our design strategy. Modern Art has created marketing materials and display cases at the Amtrak station to help tell the story of the need for Public Art.
