Don’t Forget How to Read

Friends! We submit to you, Modern Art’s entry into the holiday window decoration contest: Don’t Forget How to Read.

Worried that people were, indeed, forgetting how to read, Modern Art set up a cozy, comfortable, quiet, but highly visible, nook for local volunteers to sit and read in shifts in the studio’s front window. As neighbors passed by, we like to think that their longing curious looks were evidence of them thinking "wow, what a wonderful way to spend time.” With over 30 readers gracing our window over a 2-week period, we hope to have spread the good word of the value of a good book!

Check out some of the comments from our volunteer readers, and some photos of them reading, below:

“Thank you so much! I love this idea, and I can't express how thrilled I am, as an introvert, to have a safe place to read by myself spending the last 9 months in my house with my lovely but ever-present family.”

“THIS IS SO SO FUN!!!! And weird! : )”

I’m not blowing smoke when I say I can’t wait for my shift. I have been thinking about what to wear/read since last week!

“I didn’t realize how much I needed that! Can I move in to the window reading nook?”

“That was the best. THE BEST. Thank you for reminding me not to forget how to read. (I didn’t even realize how close I was to totally forgetting!! :)”
