Should we voluntarily give our jobs to AI? Would doing so allow us to concentrate on the things that really matter (making art, experiencing nature)? If so, what would have to change with AI (and society) to get us there? Is it delusional to think this is possible?
The Wisdom Bar is a series of expert-led talks and discussion nights hosted at bars and creative spaces. Each gathering explores a unique topic, led by a passionate speaker who shares their expertise with the room and opens it up for conversation. These events are for anyone interested in hanging out over drinks, casually learning something new, and having in-depth conversations. No expertise required. Just come curious.
Caleb Bornman, a Lancaster-based coder and photographer, will bring his deep understanding of AI and his deeper concern for humanity's future to a lecture on techno-optimism and its limits.
Lancaster’s very own wisdom ambassador, Matt Johnson, will open with a (very) short lecture in praise of the Pope's Encyclical on AI--which draws from Catholic social teaching and Lord of the Rings--to root technology in a common care for humanity.
